WHAT WE DO

Our journey began with a modest step 17 years ago when a few of us women took upon the responsibility of taking care of the needs of two little boys who were orphaned by the untimely death of their parents. As we went along, we started taking care of the needs of a Kaamwaali Bai’s daughter, or a deaf and dumb child or a promising but poor boy, paying for their education, counseling them and giving them emotional support.

Though the Mahila Samaj was established in 1999, we got ourselves registered as a society under the Rajasthan Societies Act in 2004. Thereafter, we started our signature project- of providing the bridal saree( shaadi ka joda) and a set of household goods and utensils to the daughter’s of our kaamwaali bais whenever they got married. Several women working as household helps in our colony and city have benefited from this project.

Being aware of the need to protect the environment around us, we started the ‘Shuchi Abhiyan’ which has given us a special identity in the society. Under this, in collaboration with the Nagar Parishad, solid waste is collected on a daily basis in several colonies and disposed of in an appropriate manner thus making our colonies clean and pollution free.

We have established ‘Silai Kendras’ at Shishu Niketan Madhyamik Vidyalay, Goverdhan Vilas and at Manwa Khera where we train young girls to make them self dependent in life.

We organize workshops and symposiums on various subjects related to women like gynecological problems, menopause and late pregnancy related problems, general health and fitness issues, role of women in family and society, acupressure, yoga and vaastu etc.

We also organize talks and seminars on relevant social issues like female feticide, live- in relationships, depression, growing suicidal tendencies etc where useful guidance is provided by experts.

Our members regularly visit institutions like the ‘Bal Sudhar Grih’, the ‘Deaf and Dumb School’, the School for the Blind, Ashadham etc and provide food, clothes etc to the destitute children from time to time.

We also provide free legal assistance to women entangled in family disputes and judicial issues and to rape victims who are unable to defend themselves.

We reward sport persons and other women achievers who have proved themselves by their accomplishments on the national and international level.

We even raise civic and developmental issues relevant to our city and are never behind our male counterparts if need arises in fighting for such issues.
